This bullet is a .308" soft point listed as being for the M1 Carbine. I picked up a box to try loading them over IMR3031 in .30-30... tried 5rds in my Savage Model 340 this afternoon. The charge weight today was 33.1grs. The target was the 1.75" dot on pasteboard at 25yds.

I don't have a chronograph, so while I figure they're running pretty fast for a .30-30, I don't know how fast in my particular rifle. I do know that with a 6o'clock hold, my impacts started high and left and walked in on the top of the dot... seemed like they were getting closer as the barrel heated a little. Not a good start for a hunting load from a cold bore.

For comparison, this Savage Model 340 will shoot 150gr RN SP's accurately from a cold bore if I'm paying attention. Also, after shooting 5rds of this 100gr, I ran 2rds of Sierra GameKing 125gr SP's (spitzers)... put two bullets in one hole just above my 6o'clock POA.

As it sits, I'd run the 125's and 150's in this rifle, but I haven't got the 100's where I'd want them yet. My first thought on the 100gr short jackets is to back off on the gas and slow them down some.

Any thoughts?
